Insomnia and Homoeopathy
Recently one of my patients underwent shoulder surgery by a renowned surgeon. The surgery was successful. They also came home. But after seven days, one morning he started having pain in his chest. It started to be difficult to breathe. Fortunately, he did not have a heart attack. Very worried, he called me and informed me about his condition.
After meeting him, I noticed that he had not slept for many nights. The pain of the surgery was still there. Also, they could only lie on their backs as they could not turn on the couch. Due to this, he became restless and his stress increased. He was still above 180 despite being on blood pressure pills. There were difficulties in breathing.
Seeing this, I suggested some changes in their routine. Prescribed Homoeopathic medicines, meditation and some exercises. After doing that, he slept soundly for ten hours that night.
The next morning I got a call from him. “Thank you doctor, I slept so soundly today for the first time since the surgery. My blood pressure is normal and I feel very energetic. Thank you Homoeopathy.”
From this we can realize that without sleep, they would probably have lost their lives. Sleep is our basic need and is very natural. Lack of regular restful sleep can cause many problems. But it is generally ignored or many people do not even realize that the problem is caused by lack of sleep.
Sleeping sickness is mainly of two types
1) Lack of sleep – (Sleep Deprivation) and
2) Insomnia
-
In the first type, there is less sleep due to not being able to get enough time for sleep or the need for sleep is not met in the time available for sleep.
-
In the second type of insomnia, the person does not get sleep even after trying.
- When can sleep deprivation occur in a person’s life ? Increasing workload, aiming to complete set tasks in less time, while in the case of students, exam time may lead to temporary sleep deprivation.
- The body can tolerate such a deficiency. But if it starts to happen frequently or daily, it has side effects on the body.
Another cause of lack of sleep is physical pain –
pain in the neck, back, legs and knees. In that case, the specialist in that field prescribes some medicine to reduce the pain. But they do not stop the pain completely.
Lack of sleep due to simple knee pain can lead to blood pressure, heart and brain related disorders.
In today’s modern medicine, pain relievers can have side effects on health. Therefore, taking care of the patient’s sleep with the help of Homoeopathic medicines will not aggravate other diseases.
But chronic insomnia can cause many physical ailments. It can also increase the risk of heart disease, blood pressure, cholesterol, metabolic disorders, obesity, diabetes, and anxiety.
According to some research, the rate of memory loss may also increase. Insomnia can have long-term effects on the body and mind.
- Looking at the lifestyle of the people as a whole, there is an infinite amount of sleep time. But as people have started to understand the importance of restful sleep, the use of “sleep trackers” for any sleep disorder has increased tremendously.
Slip tracking is easily possible through technological tools like mobile apps, wrist watches, rings. However, what exactly slip tracking measures is what slip tracking infers,
Is there a proper sleep assessment ?
When the sleep monitor suggests you’re done sleeping, does the person really feel the excitement and energy that comes with a restful night’s sleep ? There is still a question mark about this.
Slip monitoring devices come in many forms, such as rings and rings, machines attached to watch cushions, etc.
It can tell you how long you slept and how long you slept by measuring your body movements, respiration rate, heart rate, blood pressure while you sleep.
Certain diseases, such as obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy, chronic insomnia, etc., require the use of a sleep monitoring device if advised by a physician.
But the stress of daily life, relationship stress, irregular office hours and related stress, etc. will not lead to sleep, and those who think about work continuously, slip tracker will be of no use. For them slip tracker can be just a jewel.
A person feels that they are doing something for the sleep problem. But it does not reduce your problem. It just appears.
In fact, even in a sound sleep, a person may wake up at some point during the night. So a person with slip tracking
Did I sleep peacefully?
What time was it yesterday?
Will you sleep peacefully tomorrow?
Engaging in this thought, he may not even get the sleep he is getting. Therefore, the extent to which such devices are used for peaceful sleep will be a subject of research.
However, lack of restful sleep has other side effects.
A friend of mine came to stay with me last year. His elder brother suffered a heart attack at the age of 35. It was decided to do his angioplasty. After his brother’s angioplasty, he came to my house that night to sleep. He was snoring so loudly that I fell asleep. I thought he might have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
Does your brother suffer from snoring too ? When asked, he said in our house mother, father, brother and he all suffer from snoring. His brother suffered a heart attack at just 35, and his father and uncle had undergone bypass surgery a few years earlier. Given his family history of heart disease and the severity of his friend’s snoring, I was the one who suggested the friend go to a specialist and get a “slip test”. At that time, friend was found to be the OAS of the 3rd degree.
Not every snoring is necessarily a symptom of OAS.
Friend and his family had a small jaw. As our muscles cool down in the sleeping position, the scalp relaxes. But due to the small jaw, their tongue falls back and obstructs inhaling and exhaling. At such times, the oxygen level in the body decreases and hence one does not feel energetic due to lack of quality sleep even after getting 8 to 10 hrs sleep.
Moreover, there can be many problems like blood pressure, heart disease, obesity etc. Of course there are remedies for this in Homoeopathic science.
How many hours of sleep does a person need ? This question is always asked. According to America’s National Sleep Foundation –
- 14 to 17 hours for a newborn,
- 9 to 12 hours of sleep is recommended for children,
- 8 to 10 hours for teenagers,
- 7 to 9 hours for teenagers,
- 7 to 8 hours for adults and the elderly.
But the need for sleep varies from person to person. It can be said that,
If you could wake up at a certain time every morning without setting an alarm,
When you wake up in the morning, you feel energetic enough.
There is no need to drink tea, coffee or other energy-boosting drinks when you wake up in the morning.
If you don’t feel the need to oversleep on your weekly day off to make up for the lack of sleep during the workday, it means you’re getting enough sleep.
Those who do not get adequate and timely sleep-

Also, a room with good ventilation is good.

They are of no use for a good restful sleep.

According to the definition of Marathi encyclopedia, sleep is that state of the body, in which all the business of the body is slow, the consciousness of the mind is closed.
Muscles relax and the body’s metabolism slows down.
Shavasana does all these things effortlessly, so doing Shavasana before going to bed at night facilitates the process of sleep.
Although this remedy is the most effective of all the other remedies, it is less used.
Does sleeping during the day reduce sleep at night ?
Research on this question has found that sleeping more than 2 hours a day affects the quantity and quality of sleep at night.
This research found that a 30-minute afternoon nap (power nap) made a person more energetic.
Those who do not have any problems, do not have sleeping sickness, they do not need to change their habit of afternoon nap.
Today’s young generation, who are increasingly using various OTT platforms available 24 hours a day, services that bring various snacks to their doorsteps, are also affecting sleep.
This generation, which does not leave the house without its mobile phone being 100% charged, does not worry about charging its own body.
