“Doctor, shall we try once more? But I do not want IVF this time. Is there any possibility with homeopathy?”
Meera, a 38-year-old woman, was sitting in front of me. Her eyes showed hope, fear, and, above all, the emotional exhaustion of repeated attempts. She had undergone IVF twice, but both attempts had failed. Her body and mind were tired as she thought about a third attempt. Yet, her deep desire to become a mother did not allow her to give up.
Meera’s question was not just the question of one woman. It reflected the feelings of many women who dream of becoming mothers but face repeated difficulties in their journey towards pregnancy.
The journey to motherhood is not just physical. It is also an emotional journey filled with hope, patience, and sometimes painful uncertainty. When pregnancy does not occur naturally and medical treatment becomes necessary, this journey can become even more difficult. Physical discomfort, emotional stress, financial planning, career responsibilities, and family expectations all add to the burden.
Before discussing the possible role of Homeopathy in this journey, let us understand the experience of another patient.
Shweta got married five years ago. At that time, both she and her husband were doing well in their careers. They wanted to buy a house, become financially stable, and establish themselves professionally. Therefore, they decided not to plan for a baby during the first three years of their marriage.
However, when they finally decided to become parents, pregnancy did not occur as expected. Over the next two years, they consulted different doctors and underwent several investigations. Still, she did not conceive. Initially, both remained calm, but gradually, they began to lose hope.
Questions from family members became frequent. Comparisons with other couples, repeated questions from relatives, and the hope and disappointment that came every month increased Shweta’s stress.
At first, she was not ready to undergo IVF, or In Vitro Fertilisation. However, as time passed and repeated attempts did not succeed, she finally decided to try IVF.
IVF is a medical procedure in which an egg and sperm are brought together in a laboratory to achieve fertilisation outside the body. The resulting embryo is then transferred into the uterus in the hope of achieving pregnancy.
Although the procedure may sound simple, it proved physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging for Shweta.
During the initial days of treatment, she had to visit the IVF centre every morning for injections. On some days, she had to take two injections at a time. Later, she underwent several stages of treatment, including a trigger injection, scans, and blood tests.
Managing all this alongside her job was not easy. She had to take injections in the morning and go directly to the office. Working while dealing with physical discomfort and worrying about the outcome of treatment left her exhausted.
She had opted for a treatment package, but the additional costs of scans, injections, and other procedures continued to increase. The total expenditure exceeded eight lakh rupees. Despite spending so much money and going through physical and emotional difficulties, there was no guarantee that she would become pregnant.
The procedure to collect eggs from her ovaries was performed under anaesthesia. Several other young women were undergoing similar procedures at the centre that day. Their faces reflected a mixture of hope and uncertainty. Seeing their anxiety made Shweta feel even more nervous.
After the procedure, she was so physically and mentally exhausted that she had to rest at home for two days. Her eggs were fertilised in the laboratory, and an embryo was subsequently transferred into her uterus. Unfortunately, that treatment cycle did not result in pregnancy.
For Shweta, this was not merely an unsuccessful treatment attempt. It represented the loss of time, money, physical comfort, and emotional energy, along with the challenge of finding the courage to hope again.
Whenever she heard about the pregnancies of her colleagues and friends, she wondered, “Everything seems to happen so easily for others. Why is this happening to me?”
This question is not unique to Shweta. Many women trying to become mothers struggle with the same feelings.
Initially, Shweta and her husband were not greatly troubled by the fact that they did not have a child. However, as time passed, questions from both families became more frequent.
People who ask such questions may not have bad intentions. They may simply be eager to hear happy news or excited about becoming grandparents. However, when these questions are repeated, they can deeply affect couples who are already struggling to conceive.
Every time they answer, they may have to face their helplessness all over again. They may feel compelled to explain private matters to others. They cannot discuss every aspect of their treatment with everyone, and they may not feel comfortable sharing their pain openly.
The same thing happened to Shweta. The constant questioning increased her emotional stress and began to affect her work and performance at the office. One day, when her senior asked why her work had changed, she broke down in tears.
Apart from her husband, nobody knew what she was going through. She felt emotionally suffocated, wondering whom she could confide in, who would support her, and who would truly understand her situation.
Even today, in many parts of society, a woman’s identity is closely linked to motherhood. There is a belief that a woman’s life becomes complete only when she becomes a mother. As a result, women who do not conceive may begin to question their own worth.
Couples who wish to have a child may have several options. These may include trying for natural conception, seeking medical treatment, considering advanced fertility techniques such as IVF, exploring surrogacy in appropriate circumstances, or adopting a child.
Each option has its own procedures, limitations, costs, and emotional challenges.
Although IVF is an advanced medical procedure, the experience is not the same for everyone. Some couples succeed in their first attempt, while others may need several attempts. Waiting for the result after each attempt and dealing with the resulting hope or disappointment can be emotionally difficult.
A working woman, in particular, has to balance treatment appointments, office responsibilities, investigations, hospital visits, and financial planning.
Some couples consider adoption. However, the legal process, eligibility requirements, documentation, and waiting period can also present challenges.
The desire of both sets of parents to have grandchildren, society’s curiosity, the woman’s own longing for motherhood, and the awareness that time is passing can all increase her emotional burden.
The desire to become a mother is not merely biological. It may come from a deep wish to see a part of oneself in a new life, to nurture that life, to experience its growth, and to offer it love.
This desire gives many women the courage to continue trying despite physical discomfort, emotional stress, and uncertainty.
A woman trying to conceive is not concerned only about the outcome of pregnancy. The situation can affect many aspects of her life, including sleep, appetite, mood, confidence, daily activities, and relationships.
In this context, it is important to understand the approach of Homeopathy.
In Homeopathic practice, the patient’s complaints are considered not only as separate symptoms but also in relation to the person’s overall physical condition, mental state, emotional experiences, and individual characteristics. Since every patient has a different history and responds differently to difficult situations, the selection of a Homeopathic medicine is based on the individual’s symptom picture.
When a woman is trying to conceive, her medical history can be considered alongside her repeated disappointments, the burden of expectations, changes in sleep, physical tiredness, fears, and emotional responses.
For example, one woman may become anxious as her expected menstrual date approaches each month. She begins to hope that she might be pregnant, but feels disappointed when her period starts. Another woman may constantly compare herself with others and begin to believe that something is wrong with her. A third woman may appear strong in front of others but cry when she is alone because she cannot share her pain.
Although these women may have some similar experiences, their emotional responses and individual symptoms can differ. Homeopathic case-taking involves studying these individual differences.
A calm and sensitive conversation, a supportive environment in which the patient can speak openly, and careful attention to her experiences are important parts of patient-centred care.
Some women feel guilty when discussing their treatment. Others fear another failure, while some cannot express their emotions because of family expectations. Listening carefully and offering emotional support can be valuable in such circumstances.
In Homeopathic practice, a medicine is selected according to the patient’s individual symptoms, and changes are reviewed during follow-up consultations. Changes in sleep, mood, daily functioning, and physical complaints can be recorded and discussed during subsequent visits.
When considering Homeopathy for infertility, it is important to understand the possible medical causes of difficulty in conceiving. Factors such as the number and quality of eggs, the condition of the fallopian tubes, the structure of the uterus, ovulation, and the number and quality of sperm can influence the chances of pregnancy.
These factors should not be overlooked while considering Homeopathic treatment. Appropriate medical assessment and consultation with a gynaecologist or fertility specialist are important when planning treatment.
In my view, the role of Homeopathy is not limited to prescribing a medicine. Understanding the patient’s complete experience, giving importance to her individual symptoms, observing changes during treatment, and being sensitive to her emotional needs are also important aspects of care.
During the journey to motherhood, a woman needs not only treatment but also understanding, sensitive communication, and emotional support.
There came a point in Shweta’s life when, on her mother’s advice, she decided to seek Homeopathic treatment again.
Her case was studied in detail, and treatment was started according to her individual symptoms. Her physical complaints, mental state, emotional responses, and medical history were considered.
Later, Shweta experienced pregnancy. It was a joyful moment for her. After a long period of fear, disappointment, and waiting, she began to feel hopeful again.
Her words clearly expressed her deep longing for motherhood.
However, the journey does not always become easy after pregnancy. Regular check-ups, scans, and following medical advice remain essential. During a subsequent examination, Shweta was advised to be admitted to the hospital.
This reminds us that achieving pregnancy is an important milestone, but caring for the health of both the mother and the baby throughout pregnancy is equally important.
Priya came to me with a similar question: “Doctor, I know I am late, but is there still a chance for me to become a mother?”
Priya was 36 years old and worked as a project manager in an IT company. She had worked hard to establish her career. She married later in life and deeply wanted a child, but natural conception had not occurred.
When she came to me, I could sense a feeling of guilt in her words, as though marrying later or giving priority to her career had been her mistake.
She had previously undergone IVF, but the attempt had not succeeded. This had left her feeling disappointed and afraid.
During our conversation, she was given time to express her feelings. Her medical history, individual symptoms, and mental state were studied, and Homeopathic treatment was started.
During the subsequent course of treatment, Priya became pregnant.
She says, “My career helped shape me, and Homeopathy supported me on my journey to motherhood. I do not regret either.”
Priya’s story raises an important point. The choice between career and motherhood is not the same for every woman. Every woman’s life, circumstances, and decisions are different. Instead of feeling guilty about their choices, women should have access to timely information and the opportunity to make decisions that suit their circumstances.
Sumati and Rajesh had been waiting to become parents for seven years. Both had undergone medical investigations. The results showed that Rajesh had a low sperm count and reduced sperm quality.
Rajesh felt guilty. He thought, “Because of me, my wife has to go through so much.”
Sumati, however, had a different perspective. She would say, “We do not want to find out who is to blame. We want a solution. We want a child, and our trust in each other remains strong.”
Her words reflected the importance of understanding and mutual support in a marriage.
It is incorrect to view infertility as a problem that affects only women. Male factors can also contribute to difficulties in achieving pregnancy. Therefore, both partners should be investigated and medically assessed.
When sperm count or quality is low, different fertility techniques may be considered depending on the circumstances. The appropriate option depends on the investigation results and the advice of a fertility specialist.
When considering Homeopathic treatment, it is also important to understand the nature of the underlying medical problem. A patient’s individual symptoms can be studied as part of Homeopathic care. However, whether sperm count or quality has improved, or whether the chances of pregnancy have increased, must be assessed through appropriate medical investigations.
Sumati and Rajesh’s story reminds us that the journey to parenthood belongs to both partners. Cooperation, trust, and mutual understanding are far more helpful than blaming one another.
Couples considering Homeopathic treatment while trying to conceive should keep a few important points in mind.
I have encountered patients who reported becoming pregnant after Homeopathic treatment. Such experiences can offer hope. At the same time, every couple needs accurate information based on its medical circumstances and realistic expectations about treatment outcomes.
For a woman dreaming of becoming a mother, every injection brings a new hope. Every test result brings a mixture of hope and fear.
During treatment, the body becomes tired, but the mind may become even more exhausted. Still, many women find the strength to rise again. Sometimes they pause, cry, and feel disappointed, but the desire to try once more returns.
IVF can sometimes result in a twin pregnancy. While this may bring double happiness, it can also involve additional responsibilities and a greater need for medical monitoring. The care required during pregnancy depends on each woman’s individual circumstances.
Throughout this journey, the husband’s support is extremely important. Family members should also give the couple time and emotional support instead of repeatedly asking questions about pregnancy.
A woman trying to conceive does not always need advice. Sometimes, she simply needs someone to listen to her patiently, understand her feelings, and stand by her.
Homeopathic practice gives importance to the patient’s individual experiences and physical and mental symptoms. Detailed case-taking, individualised medicine selection, and regular follow-up are parts of this approach. These practices can help the doctor understand the patient’s overall experience and observe changes during treatment.
Such a sensitive approach is important during the journey to motherhood. Every woman’s story is different, and understanding her difficulties requires more than simply looking at her medical reports.
On the occasion of International Mother’s Day, I would like to share the stories of patients who waited for years to become mothers, faced many difficulties, and explored different treatment options.
Meera’s hope, Shweta’s anxiety, Priya’s feelings of guilt, and the mutual trust between Sumati and Rajesh all remind us of one important truth: the journey to parenthood is different for every couple.
When a couple has been married for two years or more, people often casually ask, “When will you give us the good news?” However, they may not realise how deeply this question can hurt a woman who is struggling to conceive.
Instead of blaming couples who do not have children, we should try to understand them. Motherhood is not the only measure of a woman’s worth. Every woman’s life, dreams, and choices deserve respect.
When facing infertility, it is important to seek medical information at the right time, understand the available treatment options, plan finances, and obtain emotional support. Couples considering Homeopathy should also give importance to necessary medical investigations and specialist advice while exploring individualised treatment.
In my clinical experience, I have encountered patients who reported becoming pregnant after Homeopathic treatment. These experiences have strengthened my interest in understanding each patient’s complete physical and emotional picture. I believe that every patient deserves an individual assessment, careful attention to her experiences, and a sensitive approach to her treatment.
The journey to motherhood is not simply a journey towards becoming a mother. It is also a journey of understanding oneself, facing challenges, and keeping hope alive.
And to every woman on this journey, I would like to say:
